Kenner police arrested two men after a chase that involved two car crashes, authorities said Monday.

Police said they tried to stop Franswar Compton, 26, of Kenner and his passenger, Odell Williams, 25, of Metairie, upon spotting Compton driving without its headlights on Friday about 11:20 p.m.. Compton crashed his car into a tree at 40th Street and Delaware Avenue, then struck a vehicle at 40th and Williams Boulevard, slightly injuring two people inside, said James Gallagher, Police Department spokesman.

Police say Compton threw a .44-caliber pistol from the window before he and Williams abandoned the car in a parking lot. Compton dropped rocks of crack cocaine to the ground as he ran, Gallagher said.

Police caught both Compton and Williams after brief foot chases, Gallagher said.

Compton was booked with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of a gun while in possession of narcotics, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer, hit-and-run driving, negligent injury, battery on an officer and aggravated flight in a motor vehicle.

He remains in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna in lieu of $179,000 bail.

Williams was booked with possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, resisting an officer and battery on an officer. He was released from jail on $9,500 bond.

He could not be reached Monday.
