SEMINOLE, Okla. — A police chase Sunday ended with a woman shot to death, a police officer wounded and a the suspect hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown says a gunfight involving officers began after Kenneth Gayler crashed his vehicle in Pottawatomie County to end a chase. Gayler was shot in the chest and an officer was also wounded by buckshot from Gayler''s shotgun, but Brown says the officer''s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. Gayler was in critical condition.

Brown says a woman inside Gayler''s automobile also died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

The chase began around 3:30 p.m. when police attempted to pull over Gayler, who had escaped from a Seminole County work detail about three weeks ago.
