Video: Fleeing Iowa man slams empty cruiser at 100 mph

The crash killed the driver, but his 5-year-old son who was in the back seat was amazingly unharmed

The Des Moines Register

DES MOINES, Iowa – Authorities don’t know how a 5-year-old boy lived through a crash that killed his father, who fled police through central Iowa early Friday before slamming his car into a parked police cruiser at an estimated 130 mph.

The child was found crying on the floor, behind the driver’s seat under a pile of clothes, said Indianola detective Sgt. Brian Sher. It’s unclear whether he was strapped in, or what allowed his survival.

Jeremiah Eldon Johnson, 33, was believed to have been on the run with 5-year-old Johnnathen Eldon Johnson for months, authorities said. Johnson had been engaged in a custody battle and had been reported as suicidal.
