COLUMBIA, S.C. — A car landed on top of a home in Forest Acres after a Columbia police chase early Saturday morning.

An officer was on routine patrol at 2:14 a.m. on Senate St. near Heidt Street in the Lower Waverly neighborhood when he noticed what appeared to be an illegal drug transaction at or near a vehicle, according to the Columbia Police Department.

He also noticed that the vehicle did not have any headlights on, then saw the suspect drive away erratically.

The suspect did not stop for the officer's blue lights and sirens, allegedly driving off at a high rate of speed on Gervais Street.

When the officer followed, he found the car on top of a home on Grace Hill Road in Forest Acres.

People were home at the time, according to the police department's Jennifer Timmons. Luckily there were no injuries, she said.

The suspect was not located inside the car, she said. But officers found crack cocaine and cash inside the vehicle.

CPD continues to gather information on the suspect. The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
