Suspect rammed multiple police cruisers during the deadly April incident

YAKIMA, Wash. — Officials have released dash cam footage capturing the pursuit and fatal shooting of a suspect by Yakima police April 12.

KNDO reports police began pursuing 24-year-old suspect Rolando Villanueva after attempting to stop him for driving erratically.

Villanueva rammed multiple police cruisers during the pursuit. After his vehicle became stuck between two patrol cars, Officer Ira Cavin fired three shots at Villanueva — hitting him twice.

Villanueva sped away, but slammed into the center median a short time after being shot.

Police, unsure of whether or not Villanueva had been hit, ordered him out of the car as two K-9 units were brought in, according to the report.

Police removed Villanueva from the car after he failed to respond to commands, and officers performed CPR. Villanueva was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.

The Yakima Prosecutors Office is still investigating the incident.
