WARREN, Mich. — Dash cam video has been released of a violent confrontation between an officer and a suspect during a traffic stop.

The officer, whose name has not been released, pulled the 6-foot-4, 350 pound driver over July 22 after he ran a stop sign, according to WXYZ.

As the officer started to place the suspect under arrest, he began fighting the officer and reentered his vehicle – dragging the officer for a few feet as he sped off.

The officer returned to his squad and pursued the suspect, who clipped a car and slammed into several parked vehicles during his escape attempt.

As the suspect drove into an alley, the officer exited his vehicle and fired three shots as the man began to back his car toward him.

The suspect was hit twice, but continued the pursuit briefly before stopping and surrendering.

The man was taken into custody and transported to a hospital. The officer was treated for a back injury and is in recovery.

Warren police stated that officers found drugs and wads of cash in the suspect’s vehicle.
