Traffic stop shooting wounds Ariz. officer
The Associated Press
PHOENIX — A Phoenix police officer is expected to be OK after being shot following a traffic stop on the city's west side.
The suspect attempted to flee, but crashed his vehicle into some bushes, then ran and was arrested after a police dog found him hiding under another parked vehicle.
Detective Stacie Derge says 26-year-old Kenneth R. Kensey allegedly fired several shots at Officer Mario Gaxiola after being pulled over on 35th Avenue near Indian School Road at 12:37 a.m. Monday.
The 35-year-old Gaxiola was struck once in the leg, but Derge says the wound is not life-threatening.
Derge says Gaxiola didn't return the fire.
Kensey also was taken to a hospital for treatment after being bitten on the arm by the police dog during his capture.
