NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans police are investigating an incident Monday night in which a marked police car crashed into a building in Central City, police said.

The police officer, who was alone in the car, was not seriously hurt, said a police spokeswoman, officer Sabrina Richardson. She said she wasn't certain whether the officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

"We're not sure at this time what caused the accident," Richardson said.

There were no reported injuries, police said.

Richardson said she believed the crash occurred around 10 p.m. She wasn't certain whether the building housed a store or residence.

The accident occurred at or near the intersection where the 6th District police station is located, at South Rampart Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police said.
