Video: Tenn. officer carries woman by pants

Woman had reportedly hit the officer with her car

By PoliceOne Staff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A video of a Sunday arrest in Memphis shows an officer removing a suspect from her vehicle using creative means - her pants. In the video, Officer Brian Falatko is seen carrying Veronica Yates away from her moving Mercedes, then putting her on the ground where he placed her under arrest.

According to WREG Memphis, the police report says Yates struck Officer Falatko, who was Memphis' 2010 Officer of the Year. It goes on to say he fell on the hood of the car and then on the pavement. The report also said witnesses saw Yates cursing loudly at the officer.

Police say the suspect's husband, Mark Yates, a prominent Memphis businessman, received a misdemeanor citation for Prevention or Obstructing and Disorderly Conduct. According to WREG, Mark Yates tried to open the door of the police car where his wife was placed after she was arrested. Police say he told officers he was "emotionally distraught and wanted to speak to his wife".
