Beware what you wear off duty

Unfortunately, we who have taken up the profession in law enforcement can display our pride like other professions.

Wearing clothing that indicates you may be a police officer out in public may be a fatal mistake. I encourage my younger officers not to be wearing ball caps, shirts or any other clothing item that has a police logo or statement on it.

This for obvious reasons lets the bad guys know who/what you are and represent. Thus putting you and you loved ones at risk. I have been a police officer for 28 years and stopped wearing things that associated me with LE many years ago.

It's a shame, as I would love to wear my colors in pride, but we all know that we live a very different time now.

So that's my safety tip: don't advertise you are a cop off duty... it's a mistake.
