Video may contradict Texas man's beating claim

Suspect appears to struggle with police, kick at officers

ARANSAS PASS, Texas — Aransas Pass police released never-before-seen videos Tuesday that were recorded from inside police cruisers during an arrest in which the suspect claims police used excessive force.

The videos, which show three different angles of the May 14 arrest, show officers approach Matias Vera's car with their guns drawn, and yell at him to get out of the car. He appears to refuse, and is dragged out of the car where he continues to struggle with police on the ground and on the hood of a police cruiser.

"You can see in the video that he's the one kicking at the officers. The officer's just grabbing him, and trying to hold him," said Captain Roberto Gonzalez. "I see no one throw a punch or a kick at him. The officer's just trying to restrain him."
