WICHITA, Kan. — Newly-released surveillance video shows the fatal shooting of a man who lunged at police at a Dollar General store.
On Friday, Wichita police were found to be justified in their use of force on DeJuan Colbert last October and released the accompanying footage, KSN reported.
The video begins with a store manager locking the door at closing time, with a female employee also in view. Then, Colbert enters with two suspects, one of whom forces the female to the ground in the back of the store.
Officers made it to the scene in less than 60 seconds, and just after their arrival, found Colbert charging at them with a knife. Deputy Chief Tom Stolz said the sudden move forced an immediate response.
"The officer entered in just milliseconds," Solz told the station. "We got in, we had this confrontation, and the officer took an action."
