HOUSTON — A Houston police officer died after he crashed his patrol car in north Houston on the way to a call, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said Officer Eydelmen Mani, 30, was on his way to assist another officer when he crashed into a guard rail on the North Freeway feeder road near Troy Road at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said Mani's vehicle flipped, but it landed upright. Rescuers had to use the Jaws of Life to get the officer out of the vehicle.
