Video: Ammunition explodes during car fire

Police officers used fire extinguishers as flames set off live ammunition

By PoliceOne Staff

KILGORE, Texas — Dash cam shows police and rescue crews dodging bullets that exploded in a car fire.

Christopher Chadwick, 23, was inside his car when it caught fire two weeks ago, according to KLTV. Chadwick had live ammunition stored in the trunk, and as police used fire extinguishers to control the blaze, the bullets exploded.

Officers tried to extract Chadwick until more rescuers arrived.

"They continued to try and get him out of the vehicle,” Kilgore Police Lt. Roman Roberson said. “Police officers took action with some fire extinguishers we carry in our vehicles and actually kept the fire under control until fire and rescue could arrive on scene."

Chadwick was hospitalized after EMTs pulled him from the wreckage, sources said.
