Texas cop hospitalized after red light collision

A police officer answering a call about 2:35 a.m. today was struck by another vehicle after its driver apparently ran a red light

FORT WORTH, Texas — A police officer was in the hospital recovering from injuries suffered in an early morning collision, according to authorities.

A police officer answering a call about 2:35 a.m. today was struck by another vehicle after its driver apparently ran a red light, according to a news release from Fort Worth police.

The officer was traveling north on North Main Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Long Avenue, the release said. Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to local hospitals in separate ambulances, according to the release.

The condition of both drivers was unknown early today, police said. The wreck was being investigated by the police driving while intoxicated unit and police said alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the collision.
