Police radios, body armor & assault rifles found after NY arrest

FLUSHING, N.Y. — Police radios, body armor, combat knives and an arsenal of firearms -- including an assault rifle and a machine gun -- were found along with 20,000 rounds of ammunition in a police search Wednesday after NYPD officers arrested a Flushing man, city police said.

Police officers first approached Suwei Chuang, 36, of 135-11 40th Rd., Apt. 7A, after someone reported at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday that he was carrying a weapon.

Then the officers got two search warrants, for his home and his car, and in searches at 11 p.m. they found the huge cache of weaponry, including armor-piercing bullets.

Detectives retrieved 40 large combat knives, four bullet-resistant vests, a loaded AR-15 assault rifle with a scope and 18 extra loaded magazines, a Fabrique Nationale PS-90 5.7-caliber automatic machine gun, a 12-gauge shotgun, a 9-mm Glock pistol, a .50-caliber rifle, a .22-caliber rifle, four air rifles, six Motorola police-style radios, and the 20,000 bullets.

Chuang was charged with criminal weapons possession.
