Currently there are over 100 law enforcement agencies and 850 individual police officers from across the country on a waiting list to receive the ALERRT program taught in San Marcos, Texas. The program teaches first responding police officers in Texas and across the country how to react rapidly and engage active shooters. ALERRT is funded through the governor's office and federal grants so every agency and officer gets the training free of charge. KILLEEN, Texas — The civilian police officer hailed as a heroine for ending the shooting rampage at Fort Hood Army Post said Wednesday she was washing her patrol car just before she headed to the bloody scene.
