Female police Lt. demoted for sending racy pics to fellow officer

An investigation was launched after anonymous letters were sent to department chiefs

TUCSON, Ariz. — A female police lieutenant who sent sexually explicit photos and videos of herself in uniform to a lower-ranking officer has been demoted, according to reports.

Diana Lopez, who was in a relationship with the man at the time, was the public information officer at the Tucson Police Department.

Police said her actions violated several regulations, its code of ethics and its professional standards, according to the Daily Mail.

"Lopez used extremely poor judgment in sending these images undermining her credibility as a commander,” Assistant Chief Kathleen Robinson said.

"Her actions have negatively affected not only her reputation, but the reputation and mission of the Tucson Police Department."

Lopez's boyfriend, who has not been identified, showed the photos and videos to other officers on the department, according to reports.

An investigation was launched after anonymous letters were sent to department chiefs alerting them to the incident. According to KVOA Tucson, the official report was 179-pages long.

Lopez is now working in the operations division. Her attorney, Michael Piccarreta, said she is considering a civil lawsuit against the city or appealing the demotion.
