Officer hit by truck chases after driver

The officer was dragged 20 feet, and still managed to get up, get in her squad and pursue him

By PoliceOne Staff

BENLEYVILLE, Pa. — A state trooper was directing traffic following an accident Wednesday night when a truck struck her and kept driving.  The officer got up and pursued the driver in her vehicle, stopping him about a half mile later.

Trooper Heather Gonglik was protecting another officer from passing cars by directing traffic while the officer conducted a sobriety test on a subject.

Gonglik was speaking to a motorist driving a Ford F 250 when he suddenly took off, ignoring her orders to stop, dragging her nearly 20 feet before falling and hitting her head, according to WYTV.

"This is my 18th year in law enforcement. I've never seen a police officer get struck by a car and get back up," said Southwest Regional Police Sgt. Joseph Pocsatko, who was on the scene.

Arnold J. Frankie, 62, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving, and is being held on $150K bail, according to WTAE.

Goglik was treated for moderate injuries and was recovering at home Thursday.
