The mouth is a dangerous place, not just because it can bite In the latest headlined breach of courtroom security, a California gangbanger on trial for murder used a razor blade hidden in his mouth to slash his attorney. This is a sobering reminder: mouths are dangerous places, and not just because they can bite you. Gang members are commonly taught to conceal razor blades in their cheeks or between their teeth and lips. Even handcuffed, they can manipulate the blade with their tongue and clamp it between their teeth. Then with a fast flick of the head they can lacerate your neck, face or any other body part they can reach. Besides concealing small but deadly weapons and other contraband, mouths are also popular places for hiding handcuff keys. The mouth should always be part of a thorough search, no matter how cooperative or well-restrained a suspect may appear to be.
