Last January, an officer submitted a photo of the week contender that brought us tears and smiles. It was a snapshot of Sgt. R.T. Stevens, in uniform and looking healthier than ever. More than a year earlier, he’d sent us a picture of himself on duty for the photo contest, and won, but the publicity had him reanalyzing his health, and he dropped an impressive 146-pounds. For Red Sox fans, he was a symbol of victory. For Boston, he was a symbol of redemption. Officer Steve Horgan threw up his hands in triumph as David Ortiz rounded the bases after a grand slam that tied up the eighth inning of game 2 of the ALCS, but the picture came to mean more than that.
