Ala. trooper in ICU following deadly tornado
The officer was seriously injured during a deadly tornado that destroyed his home
LEE COUNTY, Ala. — An officer is in intensive care after an EF-4 tornado struck his home on Sunday.
Sgt. Robert Burroughs and his wife lost their home during the deadly storm and the officer is currently in ICU at a local medical center, local news station ABC 3340 reports.
The tornado, with wind speeds of 170 mph, killed at least 23 people and traveled for at least 24 miles.
“He’s pretty banged up, but he’s going to make it and his family is doing well,” Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones told the Ledger-Enquirer.
Recovery efforts in the area continue. Police believe all those missing after the natural disaster have been accounted for.
