Suspect fires rifle at Colo. cop during traffic stop

The officer was uninjured; the suspect was in critical condition after the officer fired several rounds back

LONGMONT — A 28-year-old Longmont man is in critical condition after firing multiple rounds with an AR-15-style rifle at a Longmont police officer.

Police say the 36-year-old police officer pulled the suspect over during a traffic stop for driving without his headlights on just before 2:15 a.m. in the 200 block of Ken Pratt Boulevard.

According to a press release issued by the Longmont Police Department, the suspect immediately stopped his vehicle, got out his vehicle, "advanced on the officer and began firing multiple rounds at the officer with an AR-15-style rifle."  The release says the officer then got out of his vehicle and returned fire, shooting the suspect at least three times.
