LOVELAND, Colo. — A police officer was shot Sunday night in Loveland after a gunfight broke out between the officer and someone in the vehicle, Loveland Police said Sunday night.
Police were searching for a gunman west of Taft between 29th & 37th an hour after the shooting. The sheriff's office first confirmed the officer shooting incident.
At about 10 p.m., Loveland Police Sgt. Mike Halloran said the shooting incident happened around 7:48 p.m. The officer who was shot announced over his police radio that shots had been fired as he made a traffic stop at 17th Street and Wilson Avenue, Halloran said. That's where police blocked off the street and placed yellow evidence markers in the street.
Loveland Reporter-Herald reporter Jessica Maher identified the shot officer as Garret Osilka, quoting a source in the city. She also reported he was in serious condition, according to Medical Center of the Rockies.
Loveland Police were looking for older blue Jeep Cherokee with dark tinted windows and temporary tag in the back window that the gunman is believed to be driving. Interstate electronic highway signs were asking anyone who may see the vehicle to dial *277.
A "Be On The Lookout" alert to other departments said police were looking for a man or woman driving the Jeep and that they are possibly wounded.
