Military vet surrenders after standoff, shootout with Ky. police
The suspect was shot in the arm by police before he surrendered
COVINGTON, Ky. — A military veteran who barricaded himself inside a northern Kentucky home for more than 19 hours has surrendered, police said Sunday.
Covington police told WCPO-TV that Michael Vaughan started a fire at the home and then began shooting at police. He surrendered after being shot in the arm.
Police have not said what charges he will face as a result of the standoff.
Officers went to the home Saturday after received calls that Vaughan had been making distressing comments on Facebook. Vaughan posted that he had no reason to live after his girlfriend left him.
When police arrived at the home, Vaughan was holed up inside with his three children, ages 15, 11 and 6.
After a long negotiation with authorities, Vaughan eventually released the children Sunday morning.
