DES MOINES, Iowa — The suspect in the killing of two officers in two separate ambush attacks Wednesday allegedly had a prior confrontation with officers at a high school football game last month.
According to the Washington Post, a video posted to YouTube under the name Scott Greene shows the man arguing with officers who asked him to leave a high school football game after waving a Confederate flag – a violation of school code, according to one of the officers in the video.
The footage was uploaded under the title “Police Abuse, Civil Rights Violation at Urbandale High School.”
A school official confirmed the incident involving a man named Scott Greene took place, but it is not known if it is the same man suspected in Wednesday’s killings. At a press conference about the attacks, police officials said they were aware of the video and were looking into it.
The Des Moines Register reported Greene has had prior run-ins with the law. In 2014, Greene pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of interference with official acts after he refused a pat down by officers who believed a pouch he was carrying may have been a holster. Greene also pleaded guilty to a harassment charge after an incident that occurred two days later, in which he threatened to kill a man and used the N-word.
Greene also underwent a mental health evaluation in June 2015, according to the report.
Greene, 46, is suspected in the deaths of two officers who were sitting in their patrol cars. He was arrested about eight hours after the killings, according to the Associated Press. One of the attacks occurred near the school where Greene allegedly had the confrontation with officers that was caught on camera.
