ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - A police officer who was shot and paralyzed is expected to testify Tuesday at the trial of the accused gunman.
Montgomery County officer Kyle Olinger, 38, was shot Aug. 13, 2003, during a traffic stop in Silver Spring, Md. The bullet lodged in his spine, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down.
Terrence Green, 19, is on trial for attempted murder. In opening arguments last week, Montgomery County State’s Attorney Douglas F. Gansler told the jury of five women and seven men that Olinger “vividly remembers the man who jailed him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.”
Jurors have already heard from the driver of the car in which authorities said Green was riding. Fadi Kadamani - testifying in exchange for a reduced sentence - told the court that after the shooting, Green ordered him to drive away.
The jury also heard from another Montgomery County police officer who shot Green as he was being arrested. That officer testified the shooting was an accident that happened when his hand “tensed up.”
