Cuffing caution: Watch for 'lubed' wrists
If a suspect complains that the cuffs you’ve applied are too tight, don’t immediately assume that he’s telling you the truth and loosen them. Suspects are obviously not above pleading — sometimes very dramatically — for compassion and an end to their actually non-existent pain in an effort to buy some wiggle room for their wrists so they can try to slide out. In fact, some may even prepare for that potential opportunity by applying some kind of lubricant — like ‘Vaseline’ or ‘Chap Stick’ — to their wrists to increase slipperiness should they find themselves in cuffs that day. Keep an eye out for that as well.
