Stolen police BBQ smoker traded for drugs, recovered
Suspects traded stolen smoker for "$75 in dope"
Dallas Morning News
DALLAS — Some 36 hours after the Dallas Police Association’s massive $10,000 smoker was stolen, it’s back home — and two men are behind bars, suspected of having driven off with the recent acquisition.
DPA First Vice President Fred Frazier said Sunday morning that the smoker, which has been used at fundraisers and fallen-officer events, was recovered at 4:30 this morning at a house in the 2700 block of Carpenter Avenue — “a dope house,” said Frazier. Patrol officers spotted the truck seen hauling off the smoker in surveillance-cam video.
Said Frazier, the suspects told officers “a dope dealer put them up to it because they were selling it to a guy who has a barbecue joint” on nearby Hatcher Street. “They got $75 in dope in exchange for stealing the smoker,” Frazier said.
