NEW YORK CITY — A New York City resident has filed a lawsuit against the NYPD after being arrested for possession of methamphetamine that ultimately turned out to be Jolly Ranchers.
Love Olatunjiojo, 25, had purchased the treat at a candy store when he was stopped and searched by police several blocks away, according to the New York Daily News.
After finding the candies, police detained Olatunjiojo for 24 hours.
Charges were dismissed against Olatunjiojo by the Brooklyn district attorney’s office on Sept. 19. The arrest occurred in June, according to the report.
In documents obtained by the Smoking Gun, Olatunjiojo seeks damages for what he alleges was unlawful imprisonment that resulted in emotional trauma.
