ENGLEWOOD BEACH, Fla. — A Charlotte County sheriff’s deputy found 50 pounds of cocaine worth millions of dollars in the Gulf of Mexico while fishing, FOX 8 reported.

The sheriff said the 25 bricks of cocaine could be worth up to $12 million.

The deputy immediately called a fellow deputy and contacted U.S. Border Patrol.

The department has not released the deputy’s name for safety concerns, but Sheriff Bill Prummell told the publication this type of find is very rare.

“We know cocaine is out there, we know it’s coming in through the waterways but it’s not something we see on a regular basis,” Prummell said in his interview.

The sheriff’s office are working with federal agents to investigate the incident.
