SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. — Police say they found something other than snacks inside an Elmo lunchbox Sunday.

Police in Swampscott say during a traffic stop Sunday morning officers found a stolen handgun hidden inside the Sesame Street lunchbox.

Now, the three people who were inside that car are facing numerous gun charges.

Lt. Tom Stephens told MassLive that police stopped a car just before 6 a.m. on Paradise Road.

The driver, 27-year-old Theritchnide Roc of Beverly, was arrested on drunken driving and motor vehicle charges after the traffic stop.

Officers then checked the car and located the handgun in the lunchbox. Stephens said police also found an assault rifle, a high-capacity magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition.

The assault rifle had no serial numbers and appeared to be a homemade gun, also known as a “ghost gun”, the lieutenant said.

Samuel Mulumba, 23, of Beverly, and Alexander Suffreti, 24, of Lynn, were also arrested on gun charges.
