PEACHTREE CITY, Georgia — A shoplifting suspect running from police in a store parking lot ran into an unexpected obstacle.

A customer who saw the suspect fleeing a police officer pushed his shopping cart in front of the suspect, causing the man to fall to the ground and allowing the officer to take him into custody. Police on Thursday released a video of the incident, which occurred in the parking lot near a Walmart store in January, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Marcus Smith, 41, of Forsyth, Ga., is charged with felony shoplifting and obstruction of an officer, CBS 46 reports. A second suspect left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived, the Journal Constitution reports.

Police say the identity of the man who pushed the cart in front of the suspect is unknown because he left before officers could speak with him.
