NEW YORK — An NYPD officer faced criticism after a tweet that included a Black Lives Matter hashtag was posted on her precinct’s Twitter account.
The New York Daily News reports that the tweet posted by the NYPD’s 100th Precinct’s official Twitter page, which features Deputy Inspector Janice Holmes’ picture and name, was honoring boxer Jack Johnson for Black History Month. The now-deleted tweet included the hashtag “Black Lives Matter.”
The post drew criticism from other users.

“How can a precinct commander lead people when she aligns herself with a group that is known to hate law enforcement and wants police officers dead?,” one user wrote.
Mike Collins, who said he was a retired NYPD officer, wrote that he was “embarrassed” that a commanding officer would use the hashtag.
“This month is suppose to celebrate great accomplishments by black Americans, not celebrate a Hate group that wants to Kill Cops for doing their jobs,” Collins said.
Holmes reportedly said she wasn’t the one who posted it and ordered it to be changed.
A new tweet was posted that included the hashtag “Black History Month.” The NYPD said it has strict guidelines and policies around what kinds of tweets are appropriate.

NYPD officials said it’s unlikely Holmes, or whoever posted the tweet, would face any departmental charges.
“There is no indication that any discipline will be given out,” said an NYPD spokesman, who confirmed that another officer put up the tweet on Holmes behalf.
