KINGFISHER COUNTY, Okla. — Dash cam video of a standoff between officers and a knife-wielding man that ended in gunfire has been released.
News 9 reports 37-year old Steven Andrew Smith was stopped January 30 by Dover Police Chief Jonathan Eason on suspicion of drunk driving.
A deputy from nearby Kingfisher County arrived as backup. As the officers ordered Smith to exit his vehicle, the suspect pulled out a knife and refused multiple commands to drop the weapon.
When Smith moved toward the officers, the deputy opened fire, striking Smith two times in the chest.
Smith was transported to a local hospital and is currently recovering. Police are investigating the shooting.
