Detroit police relaunch music group ‘The Blue Pigs’

The music group has been around since 1969 and was revived during a Halloween concert

DETROIT — On Halloween night, the Detroit Police Department brought back an old tradition.

“The Blue Pigs” began in 1969 performing music ranging from Motown to today’s top hits, according to Fox2.

“Most of the guys in the band now have been Blue Pigs at some time or another, and the chief decided to put us together again,” vocalist and retired Sgt. Michael Sanders told the station.

The group is about to begin their Ticket to Success tour, where they make appearances at schools and spread awareness about policing through music.

“I remember when I got on the police department, I’d ride by and kids would wave. And we want to bring that back,” Sanders said.

The department is launching another musical group, “Blue Swag,” later this year featuring hip-hop and blues sounds.
