BOISE, Idaho — An Idaho Senate panel has taken the first step to allow Idaho State Police officers to use unmarked patrol vehicles for traffic law enforcement.
The Senate Judiciary and Rules Committee unanimously approved introducing the proposed measure Wednesday.
ISP Lt. Col. Kedrick Wills says the agency believes unmarked vehicles can be an essential tool in reducing the recent uptick in aggressive driving infractions.
According to the bill, no more than 10 percent of ISP’s patrol fleet would be unmarked. The bill also allows other state agencies to request using the unmarked vehicles for investigation purposes.
The bill must now pass a legislative hearing, which has not yet been scheduled.
