DORCHESTER, Mass. — Two Boston police officers have gone out of their way to help a dog who was shot while reportedly protecting his owner during a shooting.
When police officers arrived at the scene of the shooting in Dorchester last week, they found two gunshot victims, 18-year-old Dashaye Mizhari and a dog named Felony. The officers immediately called EMS to treat and transport Mizhari to the hospital.
CBS News reports that the dog’s owner told police that the 10-month-old mastiff mix jumped in front of him when the shooting started.
After making sure the gunshot victim was en route to the hospital and the area was cleared, the cops rushed Felony to vet.
When the cops arrived at the Angell Animal Medical Center with Felony they were told that the cost for his treatment was going to be $1,545. The owner was financially strapped, but without hesitation, Officers David Lanteigne, Brian Smith and Sgt. Tommy Brooks chipped in to cover Felony’s initial vet bill.
After the incident, a Facebook post about the incident was published by Lilly the Hero Pit Bull Fund, a registered 501(c)(3) public charity, to raise donations to cover Felony’s ongoing treatment and recovery.
