SAN ANTONIO — Two people have been arrested in connection with a robbery Sunday afternoon at the Rolling Oaks Mall in San Antonio where a good Samaritan who tried to intervene was fatally shot.
San Antonio police Chief William McManus said during a news conference that two men tried to rob the Kay Jewelers at the mall about 3:30 p.m.
An unarmed man who attempted to stop the robbery was shot dead, McManus said. Another man, who was legally carrying a concealed gun, then shot and wounded the robber who killed the good Samaritan.
The injured robber was taken to an area hospital.
The second robber ran off, firing his gun and injuring a man and woman, McManus said. He was arrested Sunday night, police said.
The conditions of those hospitalized with injuries related to the shooting are unknown.
Two other people, a woman who said she had chest pains and a pregnant woman who had labor pains, were hospitalized.
None of the victims has been identified.
McManus described the incident as "a robbery gone really, really bad."
The mall in northeastern San Antonio was locked down and shoppers were told to take shelter where they were as authorities searched for the second robber. McManus said the people in the mall were safe and would be escorted outside.
He initially said six people were injured.
