NYPD, unions deliver meals to hospital workers in borough hardest-hit by COVID-19

“We are all family on the front lines. Our uniforms may be different, but our mission is the same”

NEW YORK — Police union heads were out Friday delivering supplies to cops on the streets to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and thanking hospital workers for helping to save lives during the pandemic.

The Sergeants Benevolent Association was making its way to every precinct, housing bureau and transit district to deliver 80,000 bottles of hand sanitizer and 500 galloons of bleach.

“The idea behind this is to protect the cops on the street and provide them with the equipment to sanitizer the patrol cars and equipment or what they need to clean,” union President Ed Mullins said.

“We are trying to get them more stuff but as you know it’s difficult to get supplies right now,” he said.

While the sergeants were out stocking up cops — three other unions were thanking another set of essential employees: hospital workers.

“We are all family on the front lines,” said PBA President Patrick Lynch. “Cops, nurses, doctors and hospital staff have a long-standing bond. Our uniforms may be different, but our mission is the same.”

The PBA, the city’s largest police union, partnered with the Lieutenants Benevolent Association to deliver food and show their support for the doctors, nurses and other staffers at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens Friday morning.

Queens has been one of the hardest-hit boroughs during the COVID-19 outbreak in the Big Apple.

“Now that they’re at the epicenter of this pandemic, working long hours with little rest, it’s our turn to show them the same support,” said LBA President Lou Turco.

The Detectives Endowment Association, joined by the Captains Endowment Association, also delivered food Friday to health care workers NYU Langone, NewYork-Presbyterian and Lenox Hill hospitals.
