NEW YORK CITY — The NYPD cracked down on illegal street bikes and all-terrain vehicles, seizing 20 different banned rides from people who have been terrorizing city residents, cops said Monday.
Authorities issued a total of 25 summonses citywide on Saturday and made two arrests — one for criminal possession of a firearm and another for reckless endangerment, police said.
NYPD’s Chief of Patrol Fausto Pichardo quipped online Saturday, “It was a beautiful day today in NYC, but NOT to terrorize the streets on an illegal dirt bike or quad.”
“Throughout the day, NY’s Finest were safely removing these menaces,” Pichardo wrote.
The largest haul was in Brooklyn North where cops confiscated nine dirt bikes, two ATVs, two scooters and one motorcycle, according to the NYPD.
The Brooklyn crackdown accounted for the majority of the tickets with 21, police said.
The commanding officer in Brooklyn North said the crackdown was in response to complaints from residents.
“On your streets, improving your quality of life,” Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey, CO of Brooklyn North, wrote on Twitter. “Illegal bikes are not only a nuisance, they are dangerous. Our officers heard your pleas for help and we responded.”

In Midtown, three people were given summonses for riding around on a pair of go-carts, both of which were confiscated by cops, and in a separate incident, an ATV was impounded, police said.
One person was given a summons and their scooter was seized by cops in Long Island City and, over in The Bronx, police impounded another pair of ATVs, according to the NYPD.
