SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Police arrested four people who threatened and attempted to rob a Corrections Officer from Hartford at a gas station early Monday, police said.
The officer was pumping gas at the Pride Gas Station on East Columbus Avenue when two vehicles pulled up. Three of five people in the vehicles told the corrections officer that they were members of a street gang that kills police officers, police said.
The suspects implied that they had firearms in their waistbands and demanded the corrections officer's sunglasses. The suspects went back to their vehicles without taking the sunglasses and drove away, police said.
The corrections officer called police. Officers quickly spotted and stopped the suspects' vehicles.
Jose Tirado, 32, of Hartford, Joel Erazo-Molina, 28, of Hartford and Jorge Torres, 29, of East Hartford were charged with armed assault with intent to rob.
Marcos Rodriguez, 32, of Hartford, was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
