Anne Arundel County police seized $9.3 million worth of marijuana and other drugs and arrested four “high-level” dealers in the largest bust in department history, Chief P. Thomas Shanahan announced yesterday.
“I was shocked at the size of it,” he said at a news conference. “The best word is, `Wow.’”
At county Police Department headquarters in Millersville, police displayed 684.5 pounds of high-quality marijuana, bags stuffed with 30,200 blue and pink Ecstasy pills, 3 kilograms of cocaine, an ounce of crack cocaine and $55,450 in cash seized in Wednesday’s raid.
Police entered a storage facility and the suspects’ homes in Glen Burnie and Reisterstown after a six-month joint investigation with Baltimore County police, Shanahan said.
Officers had suspicions about one of the four men for three years, said an undercover narcotics detective whom police declined to identify.
Arrested were Alvin Lomax Burruss, 35, of the 12500 block of Timbergrove Road in Reisterstown; and Glen Burnie residents Derek Charles Honeycutt, 24, of the 300 block of Mountain Ridge Court; Jason Russell Bibeault, 24, of the 200 block of Westport Bay Drive; and Alfred Milton Anderson Jr., 31, of the 300 block of Highland Drive.
Shanahan predicted that the bust would put a dent in the local drug market and said the displacement of such a large quantity of drugs could increase violence in Glen Burnie. “Could there be anger? Could there be some revenge activity?” he speculated.
Shanahan said the investigation is continuing, and there could be additional arrests.
