EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio — A police officer nearly died during a traffic stop after coming in contact with fentanyl.
Police attempted to pull over Justin Buckle, 25, who was allegedly conducting a drug deal Friday, WFMJ reported. Buckle fled and nearly struck a patrol car, but was stopped shortly after.
Officers said Buckle and the passenger, Cortez Collins, 24, were moving around the car when they approached. Collins had warrants for possession of carfentanil and was detained.
Police told WFMJ that Buckle attempted to rub a white powder into the floor of the car when Officer Chris Green intervened to stop him. The suspects initially told police the powder was cocaine, but later confirmed it was fentanyl. Both suspects were taken into custody.
When officers brought in Buckle and Collins to the police station, Buckle said he wasn’t feeling well and an ambulance was called, the Morning Journal reported. While they waited, someone pointed out the white powder on Green’s uniform and he brushed it off with his hand.
“I started talking weird. I slowly felt my body shutting down. I could hear them talking, but I couldn’t respond. I was in total shock. ‘No way I’m overdosing,’ I thought,” Green said.

He fell to the floor just as the ambulance crew was working on Buckle. They administered Narcan and transported Green to the hospital where three additional doses were given to revive him. He was released Friday after receiving treatment.
“God was surely looking over me,” Green said.
Buckle and Collins were treated at the hospital as well and are back in police custody.
