Neb. cops, US Marshals hunt fugitives

The task force has had an estimated 1,500 suspects arrested so far in 2011

LINCOLN, Neb. — Since it began in Omaha and Douglas County in 2003, the partnership between the Lincoln police, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol and the U.S. Marshal Service has netted numerous fugitives. The task force has taken about 8,000 fugitives into custody since its inception, said a report from KETV, with an estimated 1,500 suspects arrested so far in 2011.

Jon Kossow of the Lincoln Police Department told KETV that the sheer number of officers working each takedown and entry has enabled a heightened level of officer safety, even when they’re going after some of the most potentially deadly offenders. “We’re handling it with enough bodies that we can pick and choose where we are going to take them off the streets,” Kossow said in the KETV news segment.
