Dallas officer fighting for his life after collapse
Editor’s Note:Editor's note: From the Dallas Morning News blog, reporter Tanya Eiserer reports: "I just received an update on Alex Garcia's condition. The good news is Garcia is now eating and drinking in small amounts. The bad news is that he has a minor MRSA infection in his lungs. MRSA is a type of staph infection that's resistant to common antibiotics used to treat such infections. Let's remember to keep this young officer in our thoughts and prayers."

DENVER, Colo. — Alex Garcia finally achieved his dream of becoming a Dallas police officer last year, but he's now facing the fight of his life after suffering a blood clot during a Police Explorers competition in Colorado.
Garcia, who joined the department in April 2008, remains in the intensive care unit of Swedish Medical Center in Denver. He is on a respirator and has undergone two surgical procedures to remove blood clots.
