ST. PAUL, Minn. — A St. Paul man has been charged with first-degree assault in connection with a beating in 2010 that left a police officer with traumatic brain injury, vision problems and other difficulties.
Thomas Jerard Swenson, who turns 35 on Wednesday, is charged with attacking St. Paul police officer Felicia Reilly. She remains on leave from her job, a police spokesman said Monday.
Reilly was attacked on March 24, 2010, when she responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Birmingham Street, after Swenson's parents called and told police that he had threatened to hurt them. He hadn't taken medication for a bipolar disorder for about a year, they said, and he was drinking and smoking marijuana.
