NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A doctor put in a few more hours of work to help an injured officer, WPDE reported.

Officer Jerry Blackwell was injured on duty Thursday while helping out in the flooding crisis. His surgeon, Dr. Tom Chambers, not only helped treat his broken leg, but also went to Blackwell’s home to repair his leaky roof.

“These guys, police officers, military, they do it all day long, don’t get paid enough,” Chambers said to WPDE. “The least I can do is help someone out who was working when he broke his leg and now has a leaking roof that workers comp isn’t going to pay to get fixed.”

Chambers and his 17-year-old son took their tools and worked on the officer’s roof over the weekend.

Blackwell and his family were grateful for the help.

“Things are tight and hard, and generosity like that, you just don’t expect it,” Blackwell told the publication.
