Coban has announced a new dash camera that uses artificial intelligence to help cops spot suspects in real-time.
From BOLOs to Amber Alerts, the Coban Focus H1 in-car camera – which uses a video analytics platform designed by tech giant NVIDIA – can ID vehicles and other objects live from the car and works with up to six cameras, enabling officers to get a 360-degree view of their surroundings.
According to CNN Tech, the Los Angeles Police Department is already testing the technology, which Coban views as a starting point for a wealth of potential applications as time goes on.
Because the analytics technology is open to third party developers, the door is open for features such as weapon identification, facial recognition, and alerts to prevent ambush attacks.
“We’ve seen dangerous trends emerge over the last several years, ranging from potential terrorist or mass shooting threats, to dangerous interactions between law enforcement and the public,” Coban CEO Doug Dickerson said in a press release. “This new video platform utilizes advanced technologies like artificial intelligence to allow for the creation of brand new applications to help address these challenges.”
Coban will demo the tech at the 2017 International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in Philadelphia at booth #2837.
