 Gang codes: Patterns on paper
Tiny tracker with a panic button could save lives
 October 15, 2013
Dear PoliceOne Member,

We've done it again.

Back in June, PoliceOne Members were instrumental in helping Ben Ward keep his brother's killer behind bars pending a new meeting of the Oregon Parole Board.

Late last month, the Board heard arguments from medical experts, as well as Chief Brian Harvey of the La Grande (Ore.) Police Department, as to why the man who murdered Officer Frank Ward remained dangerous to society.

Today, the Board issued its ruling: Convicted cop-killer Sidney Dean Porter must remain incarcerated for at least 24 more months. He is next eligible for release in June 2015.

Cracking Gang Codes

Gang codes: Patterns on paper

By Gary Klivans, PoliceOne Contributor
Gang codes can be very ornate and bear no resemblance to the English alphabet. They use these symbols to confuse the reader and hide a covert message. But some gang members use the English alphabet and hide their message in other ways. Top, hop, bop
